Producer notes from Gambero Rosso:
"Many small wineries in Irpinia share a common narrative: transitioning from being grape suppliers to wine producers. This is true for Bambinuto, thanks to Marilena Aufiero, who persuaded her parents Raffaele and Anna to produce their first wines back in 2006. Based in Santa Paolina, a cornerstone for Greco di Tufo production, the Aufieros cultivate plots in Paoloni and Picoli, situated at 500-plus meters elevation on clay-rich and limestone soils. From the Picoli parcel comes its namesake, the Greco di Tufo 2021 Riserva, which pairs luscious sensations of pineapple, plum, and gooseberry with more austere smoky and mineral shades before giving way to a lively, vibrant palate with profound depth and piercing acidity."
The fruit for Bambinuto's "Picoli" riserva bottling comes from a northwest facing plot planted on volcanic soils. This exposure better accentuates the potential for freshness that Greco di Tufo possesses in a cooler microclimate, a quality that is enhanced by the choice to age the wine exclusively in stainless steel tanks for 12 months.
